I have a few questions.
The goal here is not to get the right answer and blurt it out, but to think about the question and how it applies to you and me personally.
If your loved ones were going to perish for all eternity and there was something you could do to help prevent that from happening, would you want to know? Or do you feel you already know enough?
If you or your loved ones had a false hope of salvation, would you want to know so you could do something about it?
Or would the false hope be enough to satisfy you? Or are you so confident that you would surrender yourself or your loved ones to the devil for all eternity if you are wrong?
How Much is One Soul Worth?
If making a change in your priorities or the way you do something could result in 100 more souls coming to Jesus Christ for salvation, would you do it?
What if making some change in your life could result in, say, a thousand, or a million souls, or perhaps even a billion. Would you want to know? Would you want to explore that possibility?
What if making some change would only make the difference in only one soul? Would it be worthwhile exploring that possibility? Would the salvation of one soul not be worth the effort or concern?
What if that soul was you? Or your child? Or a parent? What if it was your brother or sister or someone you really loved dearly? Would that be something you would be willing to consider?
What Would Are You Willing to Do?
Would you be willing to pray? Would you be willing to seek God to find out if there is anything He is calling you to do?
Suppose there is some besetting sin you are unwilling to let go of, and you find that this sin will not only cost you your eternal soul but the example you set would go on to cost your children or other loved ones their souls because you cannot get them to trust Jesus if you won’t, or you cannot get them to turn and repent from sin if you won’t?
As you take inventory of your family and friends and loved ones, can you think of any that you would want to surrender to the devil for all eternity? Is there one who you can feel comfortable letting slip away without a prayer or concern?
The Love of God for People
God called us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Is your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and your obedience to God such that you would be willing to allow yourself to be lost to hell forever if you let even one of your loved ones perish without doing all God would have you do to help bring them to salvation?
Jesus Christ died on the cross for them. Does this matter to you enough to allow God to change your heart so that your love is real? Or would you fiercely defend yourself in this regard and prefer they perish to hell rather than face the difference that God might be able to make within you that would allow others to be saved as well?
Would You Let Jesus Die in Vain?
Or would you let the nails pierce Jesus and the crown of thorns rip the flesh on his head and the cat of nine tales strip the skin off his back and the hair of his beard be ripped out just to see some who He loves and died for perish needlessly because you would not pray or share the Gospel when God called you to do so?
If your salvation were on the line for theirs, would you do something different than you are doing now? Would you bear down and pray until they come to salvation? Would it matter that much to you?
On judgment day, when you stand before God, how many will God say perished because you let them perish? The textbook answer might be “none”, but when His eyes meet yours, what will your answer be?
